Air con not working? We’ll find the fault and fix it
Air conditioning has a habit of stopping on the hottest day of the year. Leeds Air Con repairs domestic and commercial air conditioning across Leeds and West Yorkshire, whoever installed it.
We diagnose the problem properly, explain what’s wrong in plain English and give you a price before we carry out any repair.
Common faults
Air conditioning problems we fix
Not cooling or heating
Often caused by low refrigerant, a blocked filter or coil, or a failing component.
Water leaking indoors
Usually a blocked or poorly fitted condensate drain, or a coil that has frozen.
Error codes and flashing lights
We read the fault code and trace it to the sensor, board or part at fault.
Strange noises
Rattling, clicking, buzzing or grinding from the indoor or outdoor unit.
Weak airflow or bad smells
Dirty filters, coils or fans, or mould building up inside the indoor unit.
Ice on the pipes or unit
A sign of low refrigerant or an airflow problem that needs looking at.
Outdoor unit not running
Faulty capacitors, fan motors, compressors or controls.
Keeps switching off
Tripping, overheating or a sensor problem that stops the system running.
Leak repair and regas
Refrigerant leaks, repaired properly
If your system is low on refrigerant, there’s a leak somewhere. Refrigerant doesn’t get used up, so topping it up without finding the leak just means paying for gas that escapes again.
We find and repair the leak, pressure test the system, then recharge it with the correct amount of refrigerant. By law only F-Gas certified engineers can handle refrigerant, and as an F-Gas registered company we can do this work legally and record it properly.
How it works
How a repair visit works
1
Tell us about the fault
Use the quote form. A photo of the error code or the label on the side of the indoor unit helps us come prepared.
2
Diagnosis
We test the system and find the cause, not just the symptom.
3
Clear price
We explain what’s wrong and give you a price before any repair work starts.
4
Repair and test
We fix the fault, then test the whole system so you know it’s running properly.
Servicing
Prevent breakdowns with regular servicing
Many breakdowns can be avoided. A service cleans the filters, coils and drain, checks the refrigerant circuit and electrical connections, and keeps the system running efficiently and hygienically.
Ask us about servicing when you get in touch, whether we installed your system or not.
Before you call: quick checks
- Check the remote has working batteries and is set to the right mode (cool or heat).
- Set the temperature below the room temperature for cooling, or above it for heating.
- Check the circuit breaker or isolator switch hasn’t tripped.
- Clean dirty filters, following your user manual.
- Give it ten minutes after switching on, as some units have a start-up delay.
If the unit is leaking water heavily or you can smell burning, switch it off at the isolator and get in touch.
Questions
Air conditioning repair questions
Do you repair all makes of air conditioning?
We repair most makes and models of split, multi-split and cassette systems. Let us know the make and model when you get in touch. It’s on a label on the side of the indoor unit.
How much does an air conditioning repair cost?
It depends on the fault and any parts needed. We diagnose the problem first and give you a clear price before carrying out any repair.
Can you regas my air conditioning?
Yes, but first we find out why it’s low. A system that needs regassing has a leak, so we find and repair it before recharging. Topping up a leaking system just means paying for refrigerant that escapes again.
Is it worth repairing an old air conditioning unit?
Often, yes. But if a system is very old, uses an obsolete refrigerant or needs an expensive part like a compressor, a new, more efficient unit can be better value. We’ll give you honest advice either way.
Why is my air conditioning leaking water?
Air conditioning removes moisture from the air, which drains away through a condensate pipe. If that pipe is blocked, kinked or wasn’t fitted with enough fall, water can drip from the indoor unit. It’s usually a quick fix.
